UNM Players – Post Game Quotes
Demetrius Walker and Cameron Bairstow
Victory vs. UNM
Oct. 31, 2012
Junior Guard Demetrius Walker
Did you all do what you wanted to do tonight?
“Of course, ultimately we wanted to win and that’s what we did so we can’t do much except for be happy with this and move forward.”
This is a guard heavy team, what did you think of the paint performance tonight?
“I think we did alright, we still have to rebound. I saw that Hugh had 12 rebounds which is crazy; we all have to help him out way more on the glass. Tony, Kendall and I all have to get in there and help out on the glass.”
Offensively do you feel there was a balance between the outside and the inside?
“Definitely, we obviously had a height advantage with Cam (Bairstow), who was a monster down there, so we wanted to feed him earlier and hopefully the defense will focus on him and he will then be able to kick it out to the guards and we’ll get open shots.”
Did it feel good to play against somebody other than yourself?
“Definitely, it was amazing. I’m getting tired of playing against the team, so it was just great to play against a different team.”
Any thoughts on the newcomers?
“I thought they all did great and Pancake (Cleveland Thomas) didn’t try to do too much, he stayed in his comfort zone and that was a great thing for him to do. Nik Banyard was also in his comfort zone and he worked hard. All the young guys did a great job.”
Junior Forward Cameron Bairstow
Do you like starting the games, or does it not really make a difference?
“When you start there’s always going to be an extra bit of confidence, but it doesn’t make a difference as long as I can contribute and set good screens and rebounding which are the things I need to focus on.”
How much has your offensive game improved since last year?
“I think you can’t really quantify it, but I just feel more comfortable down there as far as catching it and making a move and a play. My teammates did a really good job of giving me the ball and putting me in the position to succeed so all the credit goes to them.”
You carried the load in the paint tonight, are you excited to get Alex Kirk back?
“Yeah, rotations are messed up with him being out and with him being such a big body and presence it’s going to be huge for us to have him.”
