The University of New Mexico women’s golf team began play today at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. The Lobos are in last place in the star-studded 15-team field after shooting a 313 (+25) at the University of Texas Golf Club (par 72, 6,344 yards).
Tenth-ranked Alabama (284) holds a three-shot lead over No. 19 Arkansas (287) after the first round. The field features 10 teams ranked in the top-40 of the most recent Golfweek national poll.
Junior Manon De Roey led UNM with a 75. A double bogey on the par-4 18th proved costly for the Lobos’ top golfer. UNM began play at No. 10.
Juniors Sofia Hoglund and Sammi Stevens both came in at 76. Hoglund was 1 over through 14, but dropped three shots with a triple bogey 7 at the par 4 6th hole. Stevens had five bogeys and a birdie.
Senior Beth Buchner struggled to an 86.
Tulsa’s Shu-Yin Liu shot a 4-under 68 and has a one-shot advantage over three golfers entering Monday’s second round.
