LONG BEACH, Calif. – On the heels of a historic weekend for the Lobos, senior Devon Sandoval was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Team of the Week for the third time in the 2012 season. The senior from Albuquerque was a large part of New Mexico’s record-breaking 11-0 win over UNLV.

Sandoval scored three goals while registering two assists in the win over the Rebels. His first-career hat trick was the program’s first since Jeff Rowland had three goals against UNLV in the 2005 season. Sandoval’s eight points on the night was the third-highest single game point total in MPSF history.

The eleven goals scored against UNLV are the most goals scored against a NCAA Division I opponent in program history. The Lobos opened the match with a record-breaking five goals in the first fifteen minutes of the match.

His 29 points this season is the eighth highest season total in school history, and the Lobos still have three regular season matches remaining.

Sandoval’s previous National Team of the Week appearances came in weeks one and four of the season. The first came after the Lobos defeated then second-ranked UCLA in Los Angeles. Sandoval tallied two goals in that thrilling match broadcast nationally on the PAC-12 Network. His second appearance came after his three-goal weekend against Fairfield and Northern Illinois in the Nike Lobo Invitational, which also saw Sandoval take home Tournament Offensive MVP honors.

Devon Sandoval and the rest of the Lobos will take to the road for the last time in conference play. They will face San Jose State on Friday, October 26 before traveling north to play Seattle University on Sunday, October 28th.
