ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The ninth-ranked University of New Mexico men’s soccer team will look to avenge their second loss to Air Force in a week at Sunday afternoon’s match at Denver University.

#9 NEW MEXICO AT A GLANCE: The Lobos were swept by Air Force in their season series for the first time since the 2001 season. Friday night’s 2-1 loss at Air Force saw UNM fail to score more than one goal for a third consecutive match.

DENVER AT A GLANCE: The Pioneers are coming into their match with New Mexico fresh off their best game of 2012. Their 6-0 defeat of Houston Baptist on Friday evening saw the Pioneers score three times in the first five minutes of action. The six goals helped Denver record its largest margin of victory in a match since the 2007 season.

COACH FISHBEIN: Jeremy Fishbein is in his eleventh season as head coach at New Mexico.  The program is 146-46-25 on his watch and has qualified for the NCAA Tournament eight out of his ten seasons in Albuquerque. Under Fishbein, the Lobos have a record of 70-16-9 (.784) in MPSF play.

LOBOS TO WATCH: The Lobos have a pair of players who are among the nation’s leaders in various statistical categories. Devon Sandoval, with eight goals, ranks twelfth in the nation in scoring. Finally, Blake Smith currently is tied for fifth in the country in assists with seven.

ALL-TIME VS. DENVER: Friday evening’s match will be the 34th all-time meeting between the Lobos and the Pioneers. New Mexico holds the series lead with a record of 18-12-3. During the Fishbein era, New Mexico has a record of 14-4-2 versus Denver.

DOWN THE ROAD: The Lobos will return to the friendly confines of the UNM Soccer Complex for a weekend series. UNM will host UNLV on Friday, October 19 at 7 p.m. before hosting Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, October 21 at 1 p.m. Both of those matches will be double headers with the New Mexico women’s soccer team.
