HOUSTON, TEXAS – This weekend finished off pretty exciting for a couple of Lobos as the Rice Invitational concludes its third and final day in Houston, Texas. James Hignett and Mitch McDaniels became tournament champions winning their individual singles draws D and C, respectively. The Lobos were 10-2 in singles and 2-4 in doubles this past weekend.

In Flight A singles, Mads Hegelund was awarded fifth place for his singles performance. He finished 2-1 in singles.

In Flight B, Riaan Du Toit was awarded third place and finished 2-1 in singles.

In Flight C, Mitch McDaniels was named tournament champion as he defeated Tulane’s Ian Van Cott with a score of 6-2, 6-3.

In Flight D, James Hignett was named tournament champion as he defeated Juuso Latiner. Both Mitch McDaniels and Hignett went 3-0 in singles this weekend.

In Flight B doubles, Hegelund/Hignett fell with a score of 8-4 and was awarded second place.

“Overall, it was a very good weekend of tennis against quality teams from Texas and Louisiana,” Associate Head coach Bart Scott said. “The guys came out ready and excited in singles going 10-2 on the weekend led by Mitch [McDaniels] and James [Hignett] who claimed titles. I’m proud of the guys for bringing titles back to Albuquerque, but we do have a few things that need work if we want a shot at reaching our ultimate team goals.”
