Game 4 notes at New Mexico State (9/22/12)

Team:
-UNM team captains for Saturday’s game against New Mexico State were QB B.R. Holbrook, DT Ugo Uzodinma and DE Jacori Greer.-New Mexico ended New Mexico State’s three-game winning streak and has not lost back-to-back games in Las Cruces since 1963-65.-UNM ended its nation’s-wosrt 24-game road losing streak. Its last win on the road came in Las Cruces in a 35-24 victory over the Aggies in 2008.-The Lobos’ 3-0 lead with 8:19 left in the first quarter was their first lead since the season opener against Southern.-UNM’s 84-yard TD drive in the second quarter was its longest in terms of yardage since it had a 90-yard TD drive in the fourth quarter against NMSU on Oct. 1, 2011.-The Lobos forced five Aggie punts, which is the most this season.-The Lobos won their second game of the year for the first time since 2008 when that team won four games.

Offense:
-QB B.R. Holbrook’s 25-yard pass to WR Lamaar Thomas in the first quarter was UNM’s longest pass play of the season. The senior threw for a season-high 92 yards.-RB Kasey Carrier produced the first 100-yard rushing game of his career. His 29-yard TD run in the third quarter vs. the Aggies was a season-long.-RB Chase Clayton’s 20-yard option run in the second quarter tied for the longest of his career.-RB Jhurell Pressley scored his second rushing TD of the season with 10:57 left in the second quarter. He became the third Lobo with at least two rushing TDs this season. UNM had only two players rush for two or more TDs in 2011. Pressley finished with two TD runs for the game.-Thomas’ four receptions were a single-game team high this season.

Defense:
-LB Javarie Johnson and NT Reggie Ellis combined for a sack in the second quarter. It was Johnson’s first career sack (half-sack) and Ellis first recorded sack of the season.-LB Toby Ball forced his first career fumble in the third quarter.-FS Brandon Branch recorded his first career fumble recovery, on the Ball strip.-LB Joe Stoner’s fumble recovery in the fourth quarter to set up the Lobos’ third touchdown was his first this season but the sixth of his career.

Special Teams:
-P Ben Skaer hit a punt that bounced for 59 yards, which tied the second longest of his career. It was his fourth punt of more than 50 yards in the last two games.-K Justus Adams stayed perfect on his kicks with two first-half field goals. He is 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and 14-for-14 on extra-point attempts.
