Game 2 notes at Texas (9/8/12)

Team:

-UNM team captains for Saturday’s game against were WR Lamaar Thomas, LB Joe Stoner and LB Mark Hunter

-A crowd of 100,990 watched Saturday’s game, the most ever to watch a Lobo team play. The previous record was 93,875 at Tennessee on Sept. 6, 1986. The crowd for the last UNM game at Texas on Sept. 17, 1988 drew 55,630.

The Lobos have not scored in three meetings against Texas, losing by scores of 47-0 (1948), 47-0 (1988) and 45-0 (2012).

Offense:

-The Lobos rushed for 68 yards in the first quarter. In the 1988 game against Texas, UNM had minus-56 yards rushing for the game.

-QB B.R. Holbrook left the game after receiving a blow to the head and ribs with 12:09 left in the first half and did not return. X-rays on his ribs were negative.

-WR Lamaar Thomas received a blow to the head on the opening kickoff in the second half and did not return.

-RB Kasey Carrier played his first game since the 2010 season finale on Nov. 27 against TCU. Carrier had 11 carries for 51 yards and led with three receptions for 6 yards

Defense:

-Senior SS Matt Raymer recorded his first career sack and forced fumble when he stripped Texas QB David Ash of the football with 56 seconds left in the first half. The ball went out of bounds for an 11-yard loss. He finished with a career-high eight tackles.

Special Teams:

-UNM punter Ben Skaer had a punt blocked in the last minute of the first quarter. It was the first punt the Lobos had blocked since Oct. 22, 2011 at TCU.

-Skaer had a 51-yard punt in the third quarter, his first of 50 yards or more this season and the 23rd of his career.

-True freshman Carlos Wiggins made his first career kickoff return, for 8 yards in the third quarter. He had two returns on the night for an average of 9.5 yards per return.
