ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico golfer John Catlin has been named a 2012 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Catlin (Carmichael, Calif.) is a Management major who completed his junior year in May with a 3.67 grade-point average.
He won the Arizona Intercollegiate tournament (Jan. 30-31) with an 8-under 276.
Catlin is one of three Mountain West players to earn the honor. Colorado State’s Zahkai Brown and TCU’s Johan de Beers each earn All-America Scholar honors for the second consecutive season.
A total of 147 players from the Division I level earned the honor. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
