Tampa, Fla. – Senior defender of the University of New Mexico’s men’s soccer team, Travis Campbell, received Player of the Week honors from the PDL of the United Soccer League earlier this month. He is a member of the F.C. Tucson team of the USL’s top developmental league in North America. His accolades as the top player for the week were well-earned in the USL’s top national developmental league.
Campbell anchored the backline for all 90 minutes in each of Tucson’s shutout wins against a pair of teams in Utah. Those pair of clean sheets helped pushed the team’s shutout streak to 546 consecutive minutes. He becomes the first player in club history to garner this award.
The Phoenix native has appeared in six games so far for the club and logged 518 minutes of action. He has also notched a goal from his position in the backline. Campbell and the rest of his teammates have advanced the team to a 7-3-1 record and currently sit second in their league. F.C. Tucson has five matches remaining on the schedule, which ends with their regular season finale on July 13th against O.C. Blue Star.
Campbell has been a fixture in the starting lineup for the Lobos over the past two seasons. He started 21 games for UNM last season with over 1,800 minutes played as the team posted an undefeated mark of 18-0-4.
It will be back to the friendly confines of UNM Soccer Complex for Campbell in due time. He and the rest of the Lobos begin their exhibition schedule in a matter of weeks. These tune-ups will give way to their regular season opener at UCLA on Friday, August 24th at 8 p.m.
