Lobo Football Season-Ticket Renewal Deadline: May 8
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Spartans and Aggies – not those Aggies – are joining the Lobos … and Falcons, Rams, Bulldogs, Rainbow Warriors, Wolf Pack, Rebels and Cowboys.
The Mountain West announced Friday morning that San Jose State University and Utah State University have accepted invitations to join the conference beginning in 2013-14.
The league will have nine full-member institutions for the 2013-14 school year and 10 football members, with Hawaii competing in the Mountain West in only that one sport.
The nine full-member teams will be: Air Force, Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming.
The New Mexico men’s basketball team owns a 6-0 record against the Spartans, all-time. The teams last met as Western Athletic Conference rivals during the 1998-99 season. The Lobos swept SJSU, winning 81-80 in overtime at San Jose, Calif., and 82-46 in the Pit.
Utah State leads the men’s basketball series over UNM 19-4, but the teams haven’t met since the Aggies beat the Lobos 117-83 on Dec. 29, 1979.
The Lobo football team has a 4-11-1 all-time record against San Jose State. The two teams last met in the inaugural New Mexico Bowl in 2006. The Spartans beat the Lobos 20-12 at University Stadium. UNM has an 11-8 series lead against USU; the Lobos beat the Aggies 34-7 in their last meeting, in 2003 at University Stadium.
