ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Alesha Walker, a 2011 graduate of the University of New Mexico, placed seventh in the women’s long jump at the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Albuquerque, N.M., at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Competing unattached, Walker—now a graduate assistant with the University of New Mexico track and field team—leapt a season best and indoor personal record of 20 feet, 9.75 inches (6.34 meters).  Her former indoor personal record was 20’-1.25” (6.13m) and her personal best overall is 21’4” recorded in 2008 while at New Mexico.

“She went into the meet with a jump of 6.13 meters and came out with a 30 centimeter improvement,” New Mexico Assistant Coach Austin Brobst said.  Brobst coached Walker during her time at UNM.

The event was won by Janay DeLoach of Nike, with a 22’-7.25” (6.89m) mark.
