The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is in fifth place after two rounds of the UNLV Spring Invitational. The Lobos have a 36-hole total of 612 (36-over, 303-309) at the Cascata Golf Club (par 72, 6,272 yards) in Boulder City, Nev.
UNM trails Arizona (583) by 29 shots entering Tuesday’s final round. Host UNLV is second in the 11-team field at 586.
Tuesday’s final round begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. MT. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Senior Rebecca Hellbom is leading the way for New Mexico at 4-over 148 (72-76), tied for 10th. She bogeyed three of the first seven holes this morning, but strung together four birdies over a nine-hole stretch to close her first round at even par.
Sophomore Manon De Roey was headed for red numbers in the second round, but faltered at the end. She was 2 under through 15 holes after a birdie at No. 1, but made a bogey on the par 4 2nd, then a triple bogey 8 on No. 3 to finish with a 74. She is tied for 25th at 152 (78-74).
Sophomore Sofia Hoglund is tied for 26th at 154 (74-80). She had four bogeys over the first nine holes of the first round, but came back with a pair of birdies for a 74.
Sophomore Sammi Stevens, who came in with a team-best season scoring average of 75.33, never got into a groove. She shot 159 (79-80) and is tied for 37th.
Senior Sarah Salvo shot a 79 in the first round, but was disqualified in the afternoon round after taking an illegal drop.
Arizona’s Nikki Koller has the individual lead at 1-over 145 (72-73).
