Alaska Anchorage Results Day 2 ![]()
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The University of New Mexico Ski team remained in sixth place (328 points) after the Nordic team wrapped up its portion of the Alaska Anchorage Invitational Monday. Utah, Colorado and Montana State have the top three spots as the Invite turns to Alpine competitions Feb. 8-9.
The Lobo Nordic women had a fantastic showing on the day, while the men struggled due to a few of the athletes being under the weather. Freshman Sjur Prestseater wasn’t able to compete due to sickness and Pierre Neiss wasn’t able to perform up to his abilities for the same reason.
“It’s been a tough season and it keeps getting tougher,” head coach Fredrik Landstedt said. “Sjur (Prestseater) was sick and couldn’t start today and Pierre (Neiss) has had a virus the entire season. The only reason Neiss was out there was because we needed the team points.”
Linn Klaesson had another great performance after finishing in fifth place in the 10K freestyle race. The junior from Oslo, Norway, now has six top-10 finishes in six races this season. Klaesson was followed by Clara Chauvet, who placed seventh, and Anni Nord, who claimed 13th. Anita Kirvesniemi crossed the finish line in 22nd to round out the women’s team scoring.
“It was a very good day for the women with Linn (Klaesson) taking fifth and Clara (Chauvet) placing seventh,” Landstedt said.
Eivind Solberg, who took 23rd. Neiss finished 28th to round out the scoring for the men.
“We need to figure out how we can score more points on the men’s side,” Landstedt said.
Up next, the Lobos Alpine team will finish out the Alaska Anchorage Invitational by competing in slalom races on Feb. 8 and Feb. 10. The Seawolf Invite will also be held simultaneously on Feb. 9-11 with the 10K freestyle races and giant slalom races being held on day one of the competition.
