Notes
New Mexico Head Coach Steve Alford
“I’m very pleased with this team. We’ve had one bad week, and really, the bad week was a bad half, the second half of both games. Other than this, this team has, from Thanksgiving on when we were in LA, have gotten better and better and better. And tonight, we clicked on all cylinders. This was a great team effort … to play 11 guys, for 11 guys to score. ”
“You know, this is the same (Air Force) team that took UNLV to overtime three nights ago and we never had a deal where we had to play from behind. We came in here and led for 40 minutes. You do that in this building, you’ve got to be really pleased.”
“I can’t predict what’s going to happen, but we’ve been playing well. We talked about a 13 day stretch and then we get a day off tomorrow and then it’s just down to three before we can really get a break going into the second half. We’ve got one more pivotal road game at Boise on Saturday, but this is a great way to start the week.”
Air Force Head Coach Jeff Reynolds
“The guys are pretty tough. I think they’ll bounce back.”
“For the last three days the thing that I feared the most was what I witnessed over the years in my days of coaching is putting such an emotional effort and have such a quick turnaround.”
“You have to give New Mexico some credit. I think they played well. I think they shot the ball very well and were crisp is what they wanted to do. I didn’t think we had any energy or effort and I don’t think our execution was very good. When you combine those three things it’s hard. I think the thing that really showed up tonight is that we didn’t defend like we’re capable of. Sometimes when you’re not making shots you don’t do that on a consistent basis.”
Air Force Junior Forward Mike Fitzgerald
“I don’t really have a true explanation. It’s really disheartening as a team. To come so close to almost beat a ranked team like UNLV and come out today and just not bring it….you have to hand it to New Mexico, they really played a good game. They kept hitting us from the start and we couldn’t hit back.”
“We need to come out every game and play. All we can do know is get back on track and put it behind us. This is not who we are.”
“All we can do is stay positive. If we start getting negative on each other on the players or the coaching staff….that’s not who we are. We need to stay positive.”
