WINTER PARK, Colo. – The University of New Mexico’s Alpine skier Armin Triendl was named the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Skier of the Week for his performances at the University of Denver Invitational on Jan. 14-15 in Winter Park, Colo.
Triendl, a junior from Oberperfuss, Austria, placed third in the men’s giant slalom (1:56.56) and claimed third again in the slalom (1:27.39) at the DU Invitational. Triendl was the only skier in the entire field to have two top-three finishes on the weekend. His performances helped position the Lobos in fourth place as the DU Invitational moves on to the Nordic portion to be held Jan. 20-21 at Devil’s Thumb Ranch, Colo.
“Armin is showing that he is running on all cylinders right now,” head Alpine coach Tyler Shepherd said.
Triendl and the UNM Alpine team return to action on Feb. 8-11 at the Alaska Invitational in Alyeska, Alaska.
