The University of New Mexico Ski team was split this weekend with the Nordic team completing the CU Invitational in Steamboat Springs, Colo., and the Alpine team beginning the DU Invitational in Winter Park, Colo.
The Nordic squad had, what was described by head coach Fredrik Landstedt, a sub-par performance today to close out the CU Invitational.
Sjur Prestseater had the top finish on the day for the Lobos, placing eighth with a time of 42:37.5. He was followed by Christian Otto who was the next closest Lobo in 15th place.
“Sjur had a very good race for us,” head coach Fredrik Landstedt said.
On the women’s side, Linn Klaesson, once again, led the team with a 10th-place finish. She was followed by Clara Chauvet, who finished 15th.
“Linn still managed to place 10th today,” Landstedt said. “Overall we had a poor meet. We are looking to improve going into next week’s Denver Invitational.”
The Alpine squad saw Armin Triendl claim a podium spot, as the junior claimed third place in the giant slalom. Newcomer, Michael Bansmer crossed the finish line in 11th place and Chris Acosta finished in 17th to round out the top three for the Lobos.
On the women’s side, Stefanie Demetz was the top finisher in 7th place while Mary Rachel Hostetter claimed 30th place and Kate Williams did not finish.
When all was said and done, the Lobos finished the CU invitational sixth overall. Up next, the Lobos Alpine team will compete in slalom races tomorrow to complete the Alpine portion of the DU Invitational.
