The UNM Swimming team is back in action this Saturday as it travels to Grand Junction, Colo. to participate in the Maverick Meet, the first of 2012.
The Lobos look to rack up multiple victories and get back into the swing of things for the second half of their season. Tracy Ljone and her swimmers have not competed since Dec. 3, 2011 when they took on conference opponent San Diego State and fell with a final score of 153-138.
New Mexico has usually found success at the Maverick Meet often defeated all four of the other teams in attendance. Last season when UNM traveled to Grand Junction it defeated Mesa State 235-27, Northern Colorado 167-121, Colorado School of Mines 240-58 and the CU Boulder Club Team 245-16.
After the Maverick Meet the Lobos will travel to Fort Collins, Colo. to take on Colorado State, their last meet against a Mountain West opponent before conference championships are held. They will then face Rio Grande Rival New Mexico State on Feb. 4. The meet against rival NMSU will also serve as senior day for nine of Tracy Ljone’s seniors.
