CU Invitational/Spencer Nelson Memorial Day 1 Results ![]()
BOULDER, Colo. – The University of New Mexico ski team is in third place after two events at the CU Invitational/Spencer Nelson Memorial. Defending national champion Colorado is in first and Utah is in second after the first day of giant slalom competition.
The Lobos compiled 190 points, placing them eight points ahead of Denver University, which is in fourth.
“I saw an improvement from yesterday,” head Alpine coach Tyler Shepherd said of his team’s performance. “We had extremely challenging conditions, especially in the second run, and this happens sometimes. I’m definitely pleased and we are still in the hunt to close out the meet. I’m very confortable in my team when it comes to slalom racing.”
Armin Triendl, once again, was the top skier on the day for the UNM men. The junior from Oberperfuss, Austria, finished fifth with a time of 1:57:07. Had Triendl recorded his time of 1:54.80 from the RMISA giant slalom race on Frdiay he would have won the race today.
Two other Lobo skiers joined Triendl in the top 15. Newcomer Joonas Rasanen placed 12th and junior Chris Acosta came in 15th.
On the women’s side, Kate Williams had a superb finish for the Lobos. The junior from Park City, Utah, raced down the hill to a fourth-place finish, which was the top finish for the Alpine team on the day. Williams was followed by newcomer Mary Rachel Hostetter (15th) and Stefanie Demetz (16th).
