Former University of New Mexico women’s golfer Jodi Ewart will be playing on the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour in 2012 after finishing in a tie for fourth place today at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Players finishing 1st through 40th, including ties, receive 2012 LPGA membership, with the top 20 finishers earning full status for 2012.
Ewart, a three-time All-American and four-time Mountain West Conference player of the year from 2007-10, ended the grueling five-day, 90-hole tournament at 3-under 357 (70-73-74-70-70). She pocketed $3,167 for her effort.
“This is what I have been working for my whole life,” said Ewart. “I’m so excited I get to live my dream and represent the Lobos on the LPGA Tour. Q school is a long and grueling week. You have to manage your emotions. I didn’t look at the leader board the entire week. I just wanted it to be about me and the course.”
A field of 139 players started this week’s event on Wednesday at the Champions and Legends courses at LPGA International, hoping to either earn membership or improve their current member status for the 2012 LPGA Tour. Sectional qualifiers, along with current LPGA Tour members attempting to improve their status for 2012, were in the field.
