SAN DIEGO, Calif. – In the last meet of 2011 the New Mexico swimming and diving team dropped a tough meet against the Aztecs 153-138. Junior Alyssa Keill was the only Lobo to finish first on the day in the 200-yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:26.40.

New Mexico’s Jorgi Hobson, Stelicia Flores, Hayley Martin and Tesse Maciejko placed second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.99. Amber Amr, Nicole Peirce, Ashley Blanchette and Anna Lillistrom came in fourth in the same event touching the wall in 1:50.90.

Hobson and Heidi Zeiger finished two and three in the 50-yard free respectively with times of 24.74 and 25.17.

“SDSU is a fantastic team and we struggled today,” said head coach Tracy Ljone. “It was definitely not our best performance and we really needed everyone to step up today and swim well and that didn’t happen, but we did have a handful of ladies race well.”

In the 200-yard backstroke Amber Amr and Stelicia Flores finished second and third with times of 2:08.71 and 2:10.81, respectively.

Off the boards Ashlee Erickson finished second in both the 1- and 3-meter boards. San Diego State’s Kristin Meier proved to be too much for Abel Sanchez and his squad as she took first in both events.

On the 1-meter board Erickson, a three time Mountain West Diver of the Week, finished with a point total of 284.63. Off the 3-meter board her final score was 326.93.

Sophomore Megan Harper finished fourth in both events with scores of 260.78 and 288.00 on the 1- and 3-meter board, respectively.

The Lobos do not have any meets for the rest of 2011. The swimmers will resume competition Jan. 14, 2012 when they travel to Grand Junction, Colo. for the Maverick Meet. The divers will not compete until the Lobos take on Colorado State Jan. 21.

“We need to get back to work in the pool,” said Ljone. “We need to get through the end of the semester and start the second half of the season on a more positive note.”
