ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico Student-Athlete Advisory Committee invites Lobo fans and community members to join them in their Shoe, Clothing, and Food Drive for Project Share, Inc.

Lobo student-athletes are collecting gently used shoes and clothes as well as non-perishable food items from now through the end of the semester at men’s and women’s basketball games, at the Lobo Student Success & Services Center, Tow Diem, the Johnson Center, and the Student Union Building. All donated items will go to Project Share, Inc., an organization serving the hungry and homeless of Albuquerque.

SAAC secretary/community service chair and senior midfielder on the women’s soccer team, Jael Fanning, says that the event is important because it provides athletes and fans an opportunity to help people in the Albuquerque community.

“Project Share, Inc., is a local charity just minutes away from our athletic facilities,” Fanning said. “We will be helping our neighbors who we may not even realize are there and in need. I hope the athletic community will graciously respond during this holiday season.” The group is looking for any and all types of new or gently used shoes and clothing.

Non-perishable food items are also needed and can include canned fish, meat, fruits and vegetables, as well as dried fruits, crackers, nuts, granola bars, dry cereals, pasta, juice boxes and sports drinks.

Fans are encouraged to bring items to the men’s and women’s basketball games held on Dec. 3, 4, 10 and 15, and place their items in SAAC collection boxes in the main entrance of The Pit. The bins around campus will remain through the end of the semester.
