ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Junior goalkeeper Victor Rodriguez was named Top Drawer Soccer’s National Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week after posting his 10th shutout of the season against UNLV. He made four saves on the game to improve to 16-0-2 (10-0-0 in conference play) with the rest of the team.

A native of Las Cruces, N.M., Rodriguez closed out the regular season on a four-game shutout streak. The last time he allowed an opponent to score a goal was on Oct. 21 in the Lobo’s 2-1 victory over Seattle on the road.

Of the nine goals that he’s allowed this season though, five have come on the road. Therefore, Rodriguez has not allowed an opponent to find the back of the net in Albuquerque since Sep. 11, when the Lobos logged a 3-1 come-from-behind win over Cal State Northridge.

Over the course of the regular season, Vic has made 49 saves for a .845 save %. He has allowed nine goals and maintains an overall GAA of .51 in 1,577 minutes played.

New Mexico has earned a first-round BYE in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference tournament, and will kick off postseason play in Denver on Friday in the semi-final round.

The team will face off against the lowest seed from the quarterfinal round. Potential opponents include the winner of the (No. 4) Sacramento State vs. (No. 5) San Jose State game or the host team (No. 6) Denver, should the Pioneers upset the No. 3 seed, Air Force. New Mexico will play at 5 p.m. on Friday, unless they go up against Denver, in which case they’ll play in the 7:30 p.m. nightcap.
