DALLAS — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team finished the first 36 holes in seventh place Monday at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.

The Lobos, ranked 19th in the latest Golfweek poll, fell off the pace in the second round with a 6-over 290 that left them 19 strokes behind the leader, Texas A&M. The Aggies shot an 11-under par 273 for a two-round total of 551 (17 under) at the Royal Oaks Golf Course.

Duke is second at 10 under, and Augusta State is third at 8 under par.

UNM was just two shots behind the Aggies after the first round, shooting a 2-under 282 as a team.

Individually, junior John Catlin again leads the charge for the Lobos, shooting an even-par 71 in the second round to go with his 1-under 70 in the first 18 holes to finish at 1 under after 36 holes. He is tied for 15th place, eight strokes behind Texas A&M’s Jordan Russell, the overall leader at 9-under 133.

Freshman Victor Perez is tied for 21st place at even-par 142 and junior James Erkenbeck and freshman Gavin Green are tied for 34th at 2-over. Junior Benjamin Bauch is tied for 63rd at 7 over.

The last round takes place today as the Lobos conclude their fall schedule.
