BOISE, IDAHO — The New Mexico swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the Boise State Invitational earlier today with a second place finish. The Lobos finished with a total of 656 points. Boise State finished with 885 points and Seattle University was third with 375 points.
UNM finished third and fourth place in the first race of the day – the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Stelicia Flores, Ashley Blanchette, Jorgi Hobson, and Heidi Zeiger placed third with a time of 1:47.87. Sarah Weihe, Hayley Martin, Nicole Peirce and Anna Lilliestrom were fourth clocking a time of 1:51.34.
Flores also finished third in the 100-yard back with a final of 58.41.
“The team raced really well, they had good swims both days of competition and I am very pleased with where we are early in the season,” said Head Coach Tracy Ljone. “Boise State is a great team and our ladies raced each event to the end.”
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Monica Dudley showcased why she is one of the top distance swimmers in the Mountain West. Her time in the event, 10:29.55, is a 19.12 second improvement over the time she clocked just a week ago against the Falcons.
“Monica swam a smart, aggressive race today; she will be at the top of the conference in her event,” said Ljone.
Once again, Ashlee Erickson dominated the boards. She finished first on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 304.80. Boise State’s Tana Loan, who was second, finished with a score 51.30 points below Erickson.
Lindsey Morris recorded a time of 2:25.40 in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished third. Freshman Samantha Moss placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.32.
In the final event of the night, the 200-yard free relay, the team of Tesse Maciejko, Lilliestrom, Weihe and Hobson placed second at 1:38.92.
Upcoming for the Lobos is a home meet against Northern Colorado, Thursday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. in Seidler Natatorium.
