LAS VEGAS, NEV.–The second day of the ITA Regional Championship shows that the Lobos still have some fight left in them despite yesterday’s results. Michaela Bezdickova has advanced to the round of 16 in the main draw of singles, with six of her teammates advancing in singles to the round of 32 in consolation.
In the main draw of singles, Michaela Bezdickova defeated Northern Arizona’s Hannah Stone with an outstanding score of 6-0, 6-0. She will be advancing to the round of 16.
In the consolation bracket of singles, Alyssa Caffey played against Montana State’s Andrea De la Torre and won with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Susanna Kuuttila defeated University of Idaho’s Beatriz Flores with a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Laura Richardson beat Utah State’s Brianna Harris with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Maria Sablina won in a close second set tiebreak against Montana State’s Wena Tsan with a score of 6-3, 7-6.
Kristin Eggleston defeated Boise State’s Kaitlyn Brown with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Nikolina Grbac won by default against University of Utah’s Lucia Kovarickova.
All of the Lobos in the consolation bracket will be advancing to the second round.
In doubles, Michaela Bezdickova and Alyssa Caffey defeated Northern Arizona’s Perez/Wahinepio with a score of 8-5. The duo advanced on to the second round but fell to University of Montana’s Davidson/Pelchat in a close score of 8-6.
Kristin Eggleston and Laura Richardson gained three games on Boise State’s Basil/Brown but it was not enough to win. Basil/Brown won with a score of 8-3.
Nikolina Grbac and Susanna Kuuttila fell to University of Montana’s Mackey/Ghadamosi with a score of 8-5.
On the comeback made by the Lobos today, Head Coach Roy Canada said the Lobos “rebounded with a very solid performance in singles by winning every match we played.”
