The numbers are increasing for former University of New Mexico golfer Spencer Levin.
That’s a good thing.
The numbers in question aren’t Levin’s golf scores but rather his annual top-25 finishes and his earnings on the PGA Tour. Levin’s fifth-place tie at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open last weekend in Las Vegas, Nev., pushed his 2011 earnings past the $2 million mark, a single-season milestone during his career.
Levin, a two-year Lobo standout (2003-04, 2004-05), also has established career highs in both top-25 and top-10 results for a calendar year. The Sacramento, Calif., native has competed in 28 PGA Tour events this season, securing 12 top-25 and five top-10 finishes. Both those results exceed his 2010 performance.
Levin played in 31 tournaments last year, garnering eight top-25s and three top-10s. He won $1,199,672 in prize money.
Levin’s play has improved every year since he began competing in tour events in 2007. He’s been in contention in a number of tournaments this year, grabbing early round leads in multiple events.
His best result this season – and his career — was a second place at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico in February. Levin lost in a playoff on the first hole to Johnson Wagner.
Levin’s fifth-place tie in Las Vegas earned him $149,160 and pushed his season’s earnings to $2,150,049.
