BOISE, IDAHO–It’s the second day of the Boise State Invitational and UNM has produced some incredible results with four lobos left in singles, along with three doubles teams advancing in the tournament.

In the Blue flight of singles, Michaela Bezdickova will be advancing to the finals, while Maria Sablina will also be advancing to the finals in consolation.

Nikolina Grbac’s first match of the day resulted in a loss against Weber State’s Ashley Tanner with a close first set score of 7-5, 6-2.

Maria Sablina played in the quarterfinals of consolation defeating Utah State’s Romina Nedakovic with a close first set score of 7-6, and then won 6-2 in the second set. She then went on to the semifinals of consolation blowing Idaho State’s Katherine Marsella away with a score of 6-3, 6-1. She will be competing in the finals tomorrow.

Susanna Kuuttila competed in the quarterfinals against Boise State’s Marlena Pietzuch falling with a score of 6-1, 6-4.

Michaela Bezdickova’s first match of the day was played against Boise State’s Manuela Pietzuch defeating her with a score of 6-3, 6-1. She went on to the semifinals defeating yet another Boise State player Sonia Klamczynska with a close score of 7-6, 6-3. She will be competing in the finals tomorrow.

In the Orange flight of singles, Alyssa Caffey and Kristin Eggleston will be battling it out tomorrow to find out who will win the tournament.

Alyssa Caffey played against her teammate in the semifinals, Michaela Oldani, defeating her with a score of 6-3, 5-3 ret.

Kristin Eggleston also played against her teammate in the semifinals, Laura Richardson, winning with a score of 6-4, 6-1.

In the Blue flight of doubles, the team of Michaela Bezdickova and Alyssa Caffey will be advancing to the finals, while the team of Michaela Oldani and Susanna Kuuttila will also be advancing to the finals in consolation.

Maria Sablina and Nikolina Grbac fell to Boise State’s Pietzuch/Pietzuch with a close score of 9-7.

Michaela Oldani and Susanna Kuuttila received a walk over and will be competing tomorrow in the finals of consolation.

Michaela Bezdickova and Alyssa Caffey defeated Boise State’s Vo/Basil with a score of 8-5. They will be competing in the finals tomorrow.

In the Orange flight of doubles, the team of Kristin Eggleston and Laura Richardson still remain undefeated winning their second match out of their round-robin format. 

Kristin Eggleston and Laura Richardson played their first match of the day against Boise State’s Brown/Klamczynska with a close score of 9-7.

“We had a very physically and mentally draining day and came out with several key wins,” Head Coach Roy Canada said. “We are in every final and looking very solid.”
