Burlington, Iowa — Junior John Catlin fired an even-par 72 on Tuesday as the University of New Mexico men’s golf team finished fourth at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
Catlin finished the event with a three-round score of 2 under par (214) to finish in a fourth-place tie in the individual standings at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course. He was five strokes behind medalist Stephan Jaegar of Chattanooga. Jaeger shot a 1-over 73 during the final round.
The Lobos’ three-day total of 875 put them at 11 over, 16 strokes behind tournament winner Arkansas.
Junior James Erkenbeck finished tied for eighth after shooting a 2-over 74. Freshman Victor Perez had a final-round 75 to finish 7 over for the event, resulting in a tie for 31st place. Sophomore Benjamin Bauch tied for 37th at 9 over (with a final-round 75), and freshman Gavin Green tied for 46th after a 6-over 78 left him at 11 over for the tournament.
UNM, which has a second- and fourth-place finish under its belt after its first two tournaments of the season, returns home to play host to the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Friday and Saturday. The 16-team field includes No. 9 San Diego State (as ranked by Golfweek) and in-state rival New Mexico State.
