BURLINGTON, Iowa — The University of New Mexico climbed up one spot to finish in fifth place after Monday’s second round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
James Erkenbeck shot a 4-under 68 to move into a fourth-place tie with two others, including teammate John Catlin, at 2-under 142 at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course. They trail tournament leader Stephan Jaeger of Chattanooga by six strokes. Catlin shot a 2-over 74 on Monday.
New Mexico’s Victor Perez is tied for 23rd at 4-over after shooting a 3-over 75 in the second round. Gavin Green, who’s sitting at 5-over, is tied for 33rd. Benjamin Bauch is tied for 46th at 6-over.
The Lobos shot a 3-over 291 as a team Monday and are 4-over for the event. Chattanooga, which also shot a 291, leads at 6-under.
The final round will take place today.
