Midland, Texas- The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team wrapped up day one of the Midland Collegiate Invitational with Susanna Kuuttila advancing on to the third round in singles.

The UNM singles player Susanna Kuuttila notched a win for the Lobos today receiving a bye in the first round, and then defeating Texas A&M’s Sheri Oliver 4-6, 6-0, 12-10. She will be advancing further in the main draw.

Maria Sablina started strong with a win against Pepperdine’s Tara Paru 7-6, 0-6, 10-7; but fell to TCU’s Simone Parajova 6-0, 6-3.

Nikolina Grbac also started the day on the right foot winning against Texas Tech’s Samantha Adams 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. She lost her footing, however, and was defeated by Louisiana State’s Olivia Hewlett 2-6, 6-1, 16-14.

Kristin Eggleston was knocked down off the main draw by losing to Nebraska’s Stefani Weinstein 6-2, 6-3. She later faced against the second seed of the tournament Tulsa’s Samantha Vickers losing 6-0, 6-0.

Michaela Oldani will be advancing in the consolation draw by losing first to Pepperdine’s Lorraine Guillermo 6-0, 6-1. She then went on to defeat Texas A&M’s Dané Vorster 7-6, 2-6, 10-8.

In doubles, the Lobos were unsuccessful losing all three matches to TCU, UTA, and Pepperdine respectfully.
