Albuquerque, N.M. — True freshman James Rogers and junior Devon Sandoval were selected by Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News as members of the Team of the Week for their efforts in week two of the regular season. 

Rogers, who made the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, started in both games in the Lobos’ 2011 TLC Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Invitational, notching a goal and an assist in game one against Columbia. His goal worked as the eventual game-winner in New Mexico’s 5-1 victory over the Lions.

In the championship game against Cal State Northridge, Rogers had a hand in setting up the game-winner for Devon Sandoval to put UNM up 2-1 with five minutes left to play. He was also credited with the assist on Blake Smith’s goal, which left the Lobos with a 3-1 final score and the championship title.

He finished the week with five points in total and was named to the 2011 TLC Invitational all-tournament team. The TopDrawerSoccer.com Men’s College Team of the Week is chosen after reviewing every match report for Division One soccer. Following is the full list for Week Two:

Sandoval was named the Offensive MVP after scoring a goal in each game of the 2011 TLC Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Invitational this past weekend. He started both games of the tournament for the Lobos and scored his first goal of the season to put UNM up on Columbia 1-0 in the 22nd minute of play on Friday night.

He also notched an assist later that evening on Blake Smith’s goal, the Lobos’ fifth of the night, giving him three points on the game.

Sandoval tallied his second goal of the season in the 85th minute of play against Cal State Northridge on Sunday. It worked as the game winner for UNM, breaking a 1-1 tie with just five minutes left to go in the contest. His final stats for the week reflect two goals and an assist for five points. He took five total shots and put four of them on net for an .800 shot on goal percentage.
