Former University of New Mexico baseball standout, Edwin Carl, was recently named the Kansas City Royals Minor League Pitcher of the Month for his performance during July.

Carl, who currently plays for the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Rookie Pioneer League, had an incredible run during the month of July. In 10 outings (13.2 innings) during July, Carl posted a 0.66 ERA with one save. He showed remarkable poise, striking out 27 batters while issuing just two walks. He held opposing batters to a .089 average in the same span.

At just 22 years of age, Carl, who signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent in 2010, is beginning to look like a prospect the Royals will have to keep their eye on.
