NORMAN, Okla. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team was named to the Golf Coaches Association of America Division I All-Academic Team for the 2011 season. This is the third consecutive year in which the Lobos have made the GCAA’s list.
“It’s always an honor to be named to the GCAA’s All-Academic Team,” head coach Glen Millican said. “It’s reflective of the hard work that our guys do in the classroom and the support they are provided with our Lobo academic advisement staff.”
To be eligible, an institution must submit the grade points earned and the hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. In order to earn All-Academic distinction, a team must have a GPA of 3.00 or higher. The Lobos were among 59 other Division I teams named to the list.
Six teams–Alabama, Brown, Butler, DePaul, Missouri and Yale–were given President’s Special Recognition for posting team GPAs of 3.50 and higher. DePaul University was named the GCAA Division I Academic National Champion for the second year in a row, posting a 3.66 GPA.
New Mexico is one of three Mountain West schools named to the 2011 All-Academic team, as Texas Christian University and Wyoming also posted team GPAs of 3.00 or higher.
The association named national champions and honored teams in Divisions I, II and III, as well as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and Divisions I and II of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
