ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – As the fall season approaches, the University of New Mexico volleyball team is becoming more eager for the 2011 season to get underway. The team is so eager, in fact, they have decided to get the ball rolling on ticket sales for opening weekend.
The Lobos will host the MCM Elegante Lobo Classic on Aug. 26-27 against Southern Florida, New Mexico State and Nebraska at the Johnson Center. UNM welcomes a heavy hitter in Big 12 champion Nebraska, a team that hasn’t missed the NCAA tournament in the last 29 years. The Huskers compiled a record of 30-3 last season, while advancing to the regional round of the NCAA tournament and finishing the season ranked No.7.
Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for youth per match. Fans also have the option to purchase a tournament pass for $8, giving them access to all tournament matches. New Mexico set an all-time attendance record during the 2010 season, averaging 2,232 fans per contest at Johnson Center. It was the second-straight season the Lobos’ have averaged over 1,000 fans in attendance at every match. The Lobos are looking to surpass last season’s largest crowd of 3,831 fans at the Johnson Center, which was the match against Stanford.

The Lobos, who report to training camp Aug. 10, will have as an exciting of a finish to their season as they do a start. The Lobos and Johnson Center play host to the Mountain West tournament Nov. 18-20. This might possibly be the final tournament in the MW, as the league will be expanding to nine teams next season.
