ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico junior catcher Jessica Garcia was named Second Team All-West Region today by Louisville Slugger and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Garcia nabs her first career NFCA award, after hitting .418 this season with 13 home runs, 15 doubles and 37 RBIs. She led New Mexico in nearly every offensive category.

“This is an exciting accomplishment for Jessica and well deserved,” said UNM head coach Erica Beach. “She was our most consistent hitting throughout the year and her statistics reflected that. This is a great recognition for her and to be named in such great company is a true honor. The Lobo softball family is extremely proud. It’s great to see hard work and dedication be rewarded.”

Garcia tied the UNM single-season record for most home runs with 13. She had three games with two homers including back-to-back conference games. Garcia had a career-long hitting streak of 14 games this season. She had 19 games with multiple hits and 11 games with multiple RBIs.

She ranked second in the Mountain West in hitting (.418), first in slugging percentage (.801), seventh in on-base percentage (.446), third in hits (61), eighth in RBIs (37), first in doubles (15), second in home runs (13) and first in total bases (117).
