ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team recently announced two signees, Maria Sablina and Sarah Mahboob Khan. The pair will join other signee Alyssa Caffey. Sablina will be coming from Moscow, Russia. Khan will be coming from Islamabad, Pakistan.
Head Coach Roy Cañada on Sablina:
“I had a chance to meet Maria last year when I was in Moscow recruiting and I was impressed with her ability. I believe Maria will be a great asset to our program; she has an all-around game that adapts well to fast courts. She has had great success in her age group national competitions in her, very competitive, native Russia.”
Head Coach Roy Cañada on Khan:
“Sarah was pointed our way by Sam, who signed with the men’s team for next year. Sarah has had a tremendous career with many national titles and playing Fed Cup for her country which gives her extensive international experience. She will add a lot of depth to our team and should make an impact right away on the college scene.”
