SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The New Mexico softball team was two-hit Friday by Utah in an 8-0 five inning loss at the Ute Softball Field. The Lobos got hits from junior Kerry Hodgins and sophomore Stefanie Carramusa. Utah exploded for eight run on 10 hits and had four batters with two hits. The Utes improved to 26-17 on the year and 4-1 in Mountain West Conference play. The Lobos fell to 17-20 overall and 3-4 in league action.
Utah utilized a solo home run and manufactured another run to take an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Kelsi Hoopiiaina belted the homer to left field. She was 2-of-3 hitting with a pair of runs and four RBIs.
The Utes exploded for five runs in the third inning. Utah had five hits in the inning, including a double by Hoopiiaina.
The final run by Utah came in the fourth inning.
Lobo sophomore Kari Gutierrez (8-9) pitched the entire game and took the loss. Gutierrez gave up eight runs and 10 hits.
Generra Nielson earned the win and improved to 18-10 on the year. Nielson threw a complete game, two-hitter Friday against the Lobos. She shutout the Lobos and did not allow a single base runner to reach third base.
