COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team ended their three match weekend against Air Force falling 5-2. Wins came from freshman Nikolina Grbac and sophomore Michaela Oldani in both their singles and doubles matches. The Lobos will now look ahead to the Mountain West Conference tournament April 27-30 in Fort Collins, Colo.

In singles play for the Lobos they claimed two wins at No. 3 and No. 6. Grbac at No. 3 beat opponent Tahlia Smoke, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Oldani captured the No.6 win defeating Megumi Voight, 6-3, 6-3.

The duo of Grbac/Oldani took their doubles match against Monreal / Hueffner, 8-5.

Head Coach Roy Cañada noted the fact that they are now looking forward to the conference tournament.

“This was our 5th match in 8 days and it was an all out battle to the end,” Cañada said. “We had a lot of chances at every match but came short giving away opportunities with some critical errors on our part. We fought valiantly and competed our hearts out, in the end we were all disappointed to come out with a loss. Our minds are now set on recuperating, getting caught up in our school work and ready to tear it up at the Conference tournament.”
