COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team competed for the second day in Colorado Springs, Colo. against the Wyoming Cowboys falling, 7-0. The Lobos plan to split the weekend in a match tomorrow at 2 p.m. against home team Air Force.
Senior Anya Villanueva pulled her match to a tiebreaker. Villanueva lost to her opponent 5-7, 6-3, 1-0.
Head Coach Roy Cañada is looking forward to their last regular season match against Air Force.
“Tough day for us,” Cañada said. “We just didn’t play well with the exception of No. 2 doubles and Anya at No. 2 singles. We made several uncharacteristic mistakes and they took advantage of that. We played with emotion and tenacity but hardly anything was going our way. There is also credit to them for playing very well. We have Air Force tomorrow and we are earger for some payback. This is our last match of the regular season we want to finish with a bang.”
