ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team opened up their weekend matches against San Diego State. In a hotly contested battle the Lobos fell in a 6-1, decision. The score does not indicate just how close the matches were. The team looks forward to play UNLV tomorrow at 2 p.m. to end the weekend’s matches.
In singles play, sophomore Michaela Oldani stunned her opponent Olivia Colman, 6-4, 6-4.
Head Coach Roy Cañada was very impressed with his team’s solid effort.
“I think we competed very hard and I’m very proud of the effort,” Cañada said. “Overall I’m very proud of the fight we had out there. Four more matches and seven more days, we have to be mentally prepared and physically ready.”
