ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The softball edition of the Rio Grande Rivalry is set for Monday in Las Cruces, N.M. The Lobos and Aggies will compete on the diamond for the first time this season. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. MT at the NMSU Softball Complex. Live stats for the single-game will be available on GoLobos.com. Monday’s game will be broadcast live on AggieVision, comcast channel 77 in Albuquerque.
Monday will be the first television game for the Lobos this season. The Lobos (13-15) have lost four of the last five games. Monday will be the 19th straight road game for New Mexico. UNM hasn’t played at home since March 6 against Washington.
New Mexico leads the all-time series with NMSU, 71-49, but the Aggies have won four straight. NMSU has swept a pair of games the last two seasons. The Lobos last win against NMSU was on April 22, 2008 in Albuquerque, 9-1. New Mexico’s last win in Las Cruces was 2008, 7-6, on April 8.
New Mexico will play two games against NMSU this season. After Monday’s game, UNM will host the Aggies on March 19 at 4:30 p.m. MT.
NMSU enters the game on an eight-game winning streak. The Aggies are 27-10 on the year and 15-7 while playing in Las Cruces.
The Lobos open Mountain West Conference action this weekend at Lobo Field. New Mexico kicks off league play against San Diego State Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday’s contest with UNLV is slated for a 5 p.m. start, while Sunday’s first pitch is 1 p.m.
