STANFORD, Calif.—University of New Mexico senior Alex Willis recorded an impressive time of 8:59.85 in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase to finish first in the second section of the event. His time, which ranks seventh on the Lobos’ all-time individual list, was the fifth fastest of the meet.

New Mexico traveled a majority of its distance squad to the California meet. In the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, Nicola Hood ran a time of 10:33.57 in her first outdoor appearance of the 2011 season.

In the 5,000-meter run, Brock Hagerman led the Lobos with a time of 14:14.55 to finish ninth. Fellow Lobo Sean Stam followed in 19th place with a time of 14:36.32. On the women’s side, Vanessa Ortiz recorded a time of 17:07.57 in the 5,000-meter. Kaitlyn Barry crossed the finish line in 17:08.50, while Shawna Winnegar followed with a time of 17:15.76.

In the opening 10,000-meter of the outdoor season, Sarah Waldron recorded a time of 33:51.08. Kirsty Milner also competed in the event, finishing with a time of 34:37.38. In the women’s 1,500-meter run, Emma Reed placed 12th, running a time of 4:45.13.
