Learfield Sports Directors Cup Standings – March 24, 2011![]()
Cleveland, Ohio — The University of New Mexico is in 27th place in the latest Learfield Sports Directors Cup Standings, released today by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). The Lobos are the highest-ranked non-BCS team listed in the standings.
Stanford continues to lead the way with 674 points. The next set of standings is due April 7 after the completion of the two basketball tournaments. The Lobos have 293.5 points and are just half a point behind 26th place Nebraska, and 2 1/2 points out of being in the top 25.
The Lobos are the only non-BSC school in the top 40 listed in the standings, although the next two on the list are both members of the Mountain West. BYU is in 37th place with 252.25 points, and TCU is 43rd with 237.25 points. The next highest non-BSC school outside of the Mountain West is Princeton, who is 46th.
The Lobos scored 192 points in the fall season to rank 23rd nationally. In the winter, the Lobos have picked up 101.5 points from skiing (80 points for a fourth place finish) and men’s indoor track and field (21.5 points for a 50th place finish).
The Lobos finished 47th last ear in the Learfield Sports Directors Cup, their second-best finish ever, behind a 43rd place finish in 1995-96. The next standings come out on April 7th with the final winter standings on April 21.
