New Mexico – Louisiana-Lafayette Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. – The 19th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette softball team defeated New Mexico, 8-4, Saturday at the Anderson Family Softball Complex. The Lobos led most of the game but couldn’t overcome a late rally by the Ragin’ Cajuns. Both teams finished with eight hits but UNM left eight runners on-base. New Mexico fell to 12-12 on the season and will play two games Sunday. The Lobos will play Pacific and No. 12/14 Texas to close out the Judi Garman Classic. Both games will be available on GameTracker at GoLobos.com.

The game was a pitcher’s duel until the fourth inning. New Mexico started the scoring with three runs in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Stefanie Carramusa hit a solo home run to lead off the inning. UNM scored a run on an illegal pitch and an RBI double by junior Shenise Cox.

Carramusa has had a home in three of the last four games. She is currently tied for second on the team in home runs with four.

Louisiana-Lafayette responded with a pair of home runs. The Ragin’ Cajuns belted a solo homer in the fourth and a two-run shot in the fifth.

UNM would regain a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning. New Mexico capitalized on three base hits to plate a run. Junior Kaity Ingram scored the run on an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Cox, who singled earlier in the inning, scored the go ahead run.

The Ragin’ Cajuns mounted a five-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to steal the win. Louisiana-Lafayette hit a three-run home run in the inning and took advantage of two UNM errors. With the five runs, ULL clinched the 8-4 victory.

Sophomores Kari Gutierrez and Kaela DeBroeck pitched for New Mexico. Gutierrez started and took the loss. She slipped to 5-5 on the year after pitching five innings allowing six runs on seven hits. Only three of the six runs were earned by Louisiana-Lafayette. DeBroeck pitched the final inning, allowing two runs on one hit.

Ashley Brignac was the winning pitcher for ULL and improved to 11-2. She went the distance and had 13 strikeouts against the Lobos.

Ingram finished with three hits in the contest, while Cox was 2-for-3.

UNM returns to action with two games Sunday. The Lobos will face Pacific at 10 a.m. before playing Texas at noon.
