STOWE, Vt. – The New Mexico Lobos ski team secured fourth place on the final day of competition at the 2011 NCAA Ski Championships hosted by UVM at Stowe Mountain Resort and Trapp Family Lodge.
The Lobos 632 points placed them just a bit shy of third-place Dartmouth (643 points). The University of Colorado would claim its 18th national championship with 831 points, while Utah took second with 750.5 points.
The final day of the championships was all about the men and women’s slalom races, as both the men and women had two runs on the day that would be tallied together, giving them their final scores in the events.
In the women’s slalom, junior Anne Brusletto claimed the top spot for the Lobos as she finished in seventh place with a combined time of 1:57.06, earning herself second-team All-America honors. Senior Stefanie Demetz followed, finishing in 13th place with a time of 1:58.20, and sophomore Kate Williams rounded things out for the Lobos with a 25th-place finish at 2:21.70. The three women netted New Mexico a fourth-place team finish in the event.
On the men’s side, freshman Armin Triendl posted a combined time of 1:44.02, giving him a seventh-place finish to go along with second-team All-America honors. Triendl’s teammate Chris Acosta finished closely behind in 12th place with a time of 1:44.93. The two men were the only skiers in the event for the Lobos, but their scores were good enough for a seventh-place team finish in the event.
When all was said and done, the Lobos produced a total of nine All-American Skiers.
