The University of New Mexico women’s golf team moved up four spots to eighth place after two rounds of the Bruin Wave Invitational in Santa Clarita, Calif. The Lobos made a 10-shot improvement from round one, carding a 301 today on the Valley Course (par 72, 6,282 yards) at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club. UNM has a 36-hole total of 612 (311-301).
UCLA continues to lead the 15-team field. The 3rd-ranked Bruins are at 575, and have a nine-stroke advantage over fellow co-host Pepperdine heading into tomorrow’s final round.

After losing 10 shots over the final three holes during Monday’s first round, the Lobos closed much better today. Teeing off on No. 10, UNM combined to play holes 7, 8 and 9 in even-par.
Today, all five Lobo golfers improved their scores from Monday’s first round.
After closing with a birdie on the par-5 9th, freshman Manon de Roey is leading the UNM contingent at 151 (76-75, +7). She is tied for 23rd.
Despite making bogey on two of the last four holes, sophomore Beth Buchner equaled de Roey for UNM’s low round of the tournament with a 75. She is tied for 26th at 152 (77-75, +8).
Freshman Sammi Stevens is tied for 41st at 155 (78-77). She was steady all day except for one hole, the par-5 13th, where she made an 8.
Junior Sarah Salvo shot a 76, improving by four shots from Monday. She is tied for 45th at 156 (80-76, +12).
Junior Rebecca Hellbom, UNM’s No. 1 player, made the biggest improvement from the first round, eight strokes. She finished with a birdie on No. 9 for a 75 and a 36-hole total of 158 (83-75, +14), tied for 55th.
Freshman Sofia Hoglund, playing as an individual, shot an 82.
UCLA’s Stephanie Kono and Rebecca Lee-Bentham from Texas share the individual lead at 3-under 141.
