ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico softball team will host Northern Colorado this weekend in a three-game series at Lobo Field. The Lobos are 3-3 on the year and undefeated at home after sweeping a three-game series with Utah Valley to open the season. UNM opens the UNC (1-5) series Friday at 6 p.m., before a doubleheader Saturday starting at 4 p.m. Gametracker will be available on GoLobos.com.
The Lobos are looking to rebound this weekend after a tough series at Baylor last weekend. UNM is coached by first-year head coach Erica Beach. Beach has brought a new energy and excitement to the Lobo softball program.
Junior Jessica Garcia is leading the team with a .444 batting average. Garcia has a team-high five doubles and scored eight runs. Junior Kerry Hodgins leads the team with six RBIs.
UNM has used three pitchers this season. Sophomores Kari Gutierrez (2-2) and Kaela DeBroeck (1-1) have started five of six games. True freshman Madeline Greene has started a game this year.
Northern Colorado is 1-5 this season and 1-3 on the road. The Bears are hitting .227 with three home runs, eight extra base hits and 19 RBIs. UNC has three hitters batting over .300.
Erin Wilkinson is the top hitter with a .400 average and six RBIs. Kelli Henderson has also been hitting the ball well for the Bears with a .313 average. She has three doubles, a home run and scored three runs this season.
UNC has used four pitchers but only two starters. Jamie Juelfs is 0-3 in the circle with a 6.43 ERA. Henderson has a 9.35 ERA and a 1-2 record in four appearances.
