BOULDER, COLO. — The University of New Mexico (5-3) women’s tennis team took on Oregon’s (5-2) tennis team, in a road match, Saturday afternoon. The Lobos and Ducks met to dual in Boulder, Colo. Oregon had previously beat Colorado Friday afternoon in a close, 4-3 decision.
Sophomore duo, Laura Richardson and Kristin Eggleston took the lone doubles win. The pair won in default against Rabea Stuckemann and Pascale Neubert.
In singles, the Lobos fought hard but could just not pull it out. Senior, Anya Villanueva provided the single point for the Lobos. She swiftly beat Julia Metzger is an ending score of, 6-3, 6-4.
Head Coach Roy Canada sees this loss as a learning experience for his Lobos.
” We fought hard and played with determination,” Canada said. “We did not play our best and came short. I am proud of the adjustments we have made and we can only get better from this experience. It was an intense match from start to finish, these are the kind of gritty matches that develop character and inspire determination. We are mentally ready and hungry for tomorrow.”
