Official Final Results: 2011 Pebble Beach National Pro-Am ![]()
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Actor Bill Murray and playing partner D.A. Points grabbed the majority of the headlines at the final round of the 2011 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Sunday afternoon.
Deservingly so. After all, the duo did win the event. Feel free to insert your own classic “Cinderella Story,” Caddyshack line right about now.
But, not to be lost in the hoopla of Murray’s win – he has been the unofficial host of the event for a number of years – was the play of former University of New Mexico golfer Spencer Levin.
The 26-year old from Sacramento, Calif., and two-time collegiate All-American closed the final round at Pebble with two birdies over his final five holes to finish at 2-under-par for the day. The move slid Levin up from a tie for seventh place to start the day into a tie for fourth with a 10-under 71-68-67-70=276.
In finishing knotted up with Steve Marino, Levin upped his take by about $66,000, earning $277,200 for his efforts this past week. The three golfers that finished tied for sixth place each took home $211,050, while the four that tied for ninth walked away with $163,800 apiece.
The fourth-place showing is Levin’s fifth top-10 finish on the PGA Tour and third top-five finish in the past calendar year. He also has 14 top-25 finishes since Jan. 2009 on tour, having taken part in 61 events over that timespan.
The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is one of the most storied tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar, having started officially in 1947. It is forever linked with its longtime host, Bing Crosby.
During his two seasons as a Lobo, Levin was named a Division I PING first team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America in 2005 and a second team All-American in 2004. He’s now earned $381,565 in five events in 2011 and a total of $2,217,597 on the PGA Tour since turning pro after his final season at New Mexico.
“This was just a great tournament for Spencer,” Lobo head coach Glen Millican said late Sunday evening. “It’s very exciting to see him play well – especially at a place like Pebble Beach.”
Millican and the 2011 Lobos are currently in Hawaii getting ready for the 35th annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate, held at the Arnold Palmer and George Fazio courses at the Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, O`ahu, and hosted by the University of Hawaii. Play at the three-round event begins Wednesday morning.
Levin entered the Pebble Beach Pro-Am ranked No. 76 in the Golfweek/Sagarin World Performance Index and No. 219 in the official World Golf Rankings among all professional golfers worldwide.
Levin’s 2010 PGA Season
Levin had what can only be called a breakthrough year on the PGA Tour in 2010, climbing into the top 250 in the world ranking by season’s end and earning $1.2 million.
He took part in 31 events, making 24 cuts with eight top-25 and three top-10 finishes. He closed the 2010 season on a tear, finishing tied for fourth at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with a 20-under-par 69-63-66-66=264. He capped the year with his best finish on tour, tying for third at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic with a 17-under 68-68-67-68=271.
