ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico ski team competed in the 2011 Denver Invitational Thursday in Winter Park, Colo. The Lobos participated in the Giant Slalom event as part of the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Qualifier. UNM’s Petter Brenna finished fourth, while Anne Cecilie Brusletto paced the women with a 12th place finish.

Brenna was one of three Lobos to finish in the Top-15. Brenna captured fourth with a time of 1:55.21. Armin Triendi placed eighth with a mark of 1:55.72. Christopher Acosta had a time of 1:56.38 and finished 11th. UNM skier Juko-Pekka Penttinen came in 19th and Gary Beresford was 28th.

In the women’s race, Brusletto led the way with a 12th place finish and a time of 2:04.05. Stefanie Demetz was 24th with a mark of 2:09.40.

Lobo Kate Williams had the fastest first run with a time of 1:01:04 but didn’t finish on her second run.

Denver skiers Lindsay Cone and Seppi Stiegler won the events. The event will continue Friday with more Alpine action.
